A Brief History of the Cobro Book
The first Northwest Electronics Buyers Guide was published in December of 1983. The original information was compiled on a Commodore Vic 20, and later on a Radio Shack TRS80, Model 100. Data transfers at 300 baud took so long that it was much faster to drive the 20 miles we were sending the data.
It took eight hours to print the master copy on a dot matrix printer in a very cold basement. It was printed on brown paper, one-side only, at a local quick-print shop, and bound with a GBC spiral. It included information on 47 Pacific Northwest distributors. There were no advertisements.
Today the book is printed and distributed twice a year, containing information on over 400 distributors, manufacturers representatives and service providers. The information is extracted from a much larger, nationwide database maintained on the internet, at electrobase.com.
